On the way to the sports auditorium for a third and final meeting with the Cownsil, Professor Woo and Ja Mere were confronting a problem they couldn’t have anticipated. “Ja Mere, it never occurred to me that Little Roy would be so loyal that he’d go so far as to not turn us in. We’ve got to do something. Can one of your people drop a hint with their bossperson?”

Ja Mere reached over to the passenger console and pressed the speaker button; “Driver, slow down. We wish to get to the basketball game alive.” The sound shields and speaker buttons were put in as much for the drivers’ comfort as for any consideration of the passengers. The drivers were willing as the next Citizin to get something on the eggheads; they would have dutifully listened to any and all conversations except for the massive amount of sex talk that eggheads engaged in. The drivers and citizins in general had no way of knowing that eggheads never talked about sex except in public as a code to annoy citizins and gain privacy. The end result was the privacy screens in taxis and speaker buttons. Just as Ja Mere was releasing the button, the driver could be heard mumbling something about ‘no loss if you did die...I’ve seen you guys play.’

Turning his attention to Professor Woo, Ja Mere continued at a lower volume, “You know what they will do to the little guy if they find out he’s been holding out on them? Are you sure you want to be responsible for that?”

Professor Woo whispered back “Okay, what are we to do?” Then pressed the speaker button for the driver and instructed him “Turn here, driver.”

Releasing the speaker button, Professor Woo got the inspiration he needed. “Ja Mere, do you think our caustic cabby friend up there would turn us in?”

“In a second if he had the chance. If his innate hatred of us wasn’t enough, the reward would be.”

“How about we repeat our little drama of the other night for his benefit? That will get the good Citizins of the world playing their part in our drama and keep Little Roy out of main line trouble.”

Looking out the window at the passing scenery Professor Woo thought about Little Roy’s unexpected response, “I really must pay more attention to these goobers.”

Ja Mere reached over to the speaker button to give the driver another warning about his driving and managed to stick the button in the on position. Nodding to Professor Woo, the two of them proceeded with an excellent encore of the previous night’s incriminating dinner conversation. Judging by the smile on the driver’s lips, this Citizin was going to do his duty and turn the dirty rotten xpearimintalist scoundrels in to the proper authorities.

If only their response followed prediction.
