bound in THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR'S BINDING, that is,
a contemporary limp black cloth, gilt title
on spine. CONDITION: VERY GOOD!
An ORIGINAL AUTHOR'S TYPESCRIPT of the text of Letters...(1933) AND
More Letters...(1936). Apparently this typescript
was given by Bruce Rogers to the poet TED HUGHES, who
then gave it to the world-famous
Mr. Hammer, founder of HAMMER GALLERIES in New York City,
(his signature is on the endpaper), who in turn gave
it to his son-in-law, from whom it was purchased.
THIS COPY PRECEDES
THE FIRST PRINTING OF "LETTERS" AND "MORE LETTERS",
1933-36!
The PRIVATE LETTERS TO BRUCE ROGERS
contained in this EXTREMELY RARE copy of
the original ms were written by Lawrence during the
period that he was translating THE ODYSSEY, so it
is literally drenched with literary, historical and
personal significance!
You will see many PUBLIC PRINTINGS of "letters", but very
few, if any, PRIVATE TYPESCRIPT PRE-PRINT COPIES and
NONE AT ALL with the signature of Mr. Hammer on the
endpapers, and its corresponding documented provenance!
All in all, a fabulous and EXTREMELY RARE
