LAWRENCE OF ARABIA PERSONAL LETTERS VERY RARE

INCREDIBLY RARE LAWRENCIANA! A PERSONAL GIFT TO A VERY SPECIAL FRIEND, POET TED HUGHES! SIGNED BY MR. HAMMER OF HAMMER GALLERIES!!!

What a Fabulous Gift for a Loved One! FAR RARER THAN THE LATER "FIRST PUBLIC" EDITIONS!

(LAWRENCE, T.E.)

LETTERS FROM T.E. SHAW (Lawrence) TO BRUCE ROGERS
No place, circa 1933.

8vo, 75 unnumbered leaves printed on recto only, bound in THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR'S BINDING, that is, a contemporary limp black cloth, gilt title on spine. CONDITION: VERY GOOD!

An ORIGINAL AUTHOR'S TYPESCRIPT of the text of Letters...(1933) AND More Letters...(1936). Apparently this typescript was given by Bruce Rogers to the poet TED HUGHES, who then gave it to the world-famous
Mr. Hammer, founder of HAMMER GALLERIES in New York City, (his signature is on the endpaper), who in turn gave it to his son-in-law, from whom it was purchased.

THIS COPY PRECEDES THE FIRST PRINTING OF "LETTERS" AND "MORE LETTERS", 1933-36!

The PRIVATE LETTERS TO BRUCE ROGERS contained in this EXTREMELY RARE copy of the original ms were written by Lawrence during the period that he was translating THE ODYSSEY, so it is literally drenched with literary, historical and personal significance!

You will see many PUBLIC PRINTINGS of "letters", but very few, if any, PRIVATE TYPESCRIPT PRE-PRINT COPIES and NONE AT ALL with the signature of Mr. Hammer on the endpapers, and its corresponding documented provenance!

All in all, a fabulous and EXTREMELY RARE bit of Lawrenciana. THE ORDINARY PRINTED PUBLIC EDITIONS OF BOTH BOOKS OFTEN BRING $2500-$3500! THIS IS FAR RARER!!! IT IS THE AUTHOR'S OWN COPY GIVEN TO A FRIEND!!! THERE ARE PRECIOUS FEW PERSONAL ITEMS FROM T.E. LAWRENCE'S OWN HAND! THIS WAS A GIFT, NOT A COMMERCIAL COPY!!!
