THE HERMETIC MUSEUM~restored and enlarged, complete in one
volume
ARTHUR EDWARD WAITE
The Hermetic Museum contains twenty-two of the most celebrated ancient alchemical
texts. Originally published in 1678 in Latin, it
supplies a
representative collection of alchemical writers and
faitfully instructed
Disciples of the Sopho-Spagyric Art on how to find and
hold the
Philosopher's Stone. In the twenty-two tracts that
comprise The Hermetic
Museum readers will recognize traces of a central
claim in alchemical initiation: that the secrets,
whatever they may be, must be undersood
as coming from a group of adepts, and that the
knowledge has existed since time immemorial,
revealing itself to a select few. Many of the
treatises are anonymous, but the names of the others
are of
historical legend. Arthur Edward Waite's edition
of The Hermetic Museum allowed
students of the secret doctrines a unique opportunity
to
acquire these legendary texts in English. Working with an existing English translation(by an
unknown translator) he prepared the text and
contributed extensive editing and revision. A Weiser
Classic, this one-volume
edition collects all of the tracts that appeared in
Waite's original 1893 two-volume set.
