You'll never guess today Parker, the singing
voices of 2 italians and one old lady lifted up in
song and spirit. We put on the tape - the CD - these
days, and moved right forward - or backward - or we
just stood still, in that singing space where the
songs moved the spirit. WE found a mutual voice in The
Turkish Coffee Song, which is very dear to the ones in
this home far away, and yet brought strong beautiful
reminders of working together in chambers that were
candle lit and full of fresh energy, renewed purpose
each day. When our little ones ran around, needing us
in a certain way that was always understood by someone
- the group sang children's songs - we carried our
poetry to the playground - there was laughter in the
baths, the swimming pool, the chicken pox. We found
out we weren't immortal, but something was, we looked
inside, we looked around at times, and in all this
looking there was singing, there were days of guitar
playing and drumming, and nights of talk. In this
moment in another land, in another language, in
another time - the music is still playing the beat -
still giving the message. WE sat here and sang
together for 2 hours, our voices not tuned, but not
missing the beats - because it is strong. The simple
tunes carrying thru memory and across music sheets so
new ones will know the chords and the strumming and
some of the words.
My thanks to Parker, and to Meg, and to all of Us,
or whoever that was that spoke and listened and saw
and sang. I carry that today, and it carried me. There
is a sangsungsong that just doesn't quit. And I know
that sound is long-a-growin.
