When Id Software's American McGee visited Gorebag's music studio last month, some strange sounds were heard to waft out the Studio doors. McGee is a level designer and Sound Director for Id Software, developer of the vastly popular Doom™ and Quake™ interactive video games. He and Gorebag were getting together to record some sound bites for Quake II™, scheduled for a December release by Id to follow their 1995 stupendously successful Quake I™.

The group got to having too much fun in the recording studio, and digressed into some lame, and I mean really lame, sound bites of anguish, stress and pain, designed to spoof those actively awaiting QII. Posted on Stormin' F---Î Norman's Quake™ Page, the bites soon attracted the attention of famed Quake™ commentator, Redwood, known for his "Stomped" Quake™ site, as well as the gang back at Id.

American's political correctness hung in the balance for a few minutes as the id execs listened closely. But these are very hip, cutting edge programmers and designers, with senses of humor to match, and a propensity for practical jokes. They had fun with it.

Meanwhile, American, Gorebag and the Grunts got back to work on the sound bites. The results? Wait and see pudding :-)
