Longtime editor of Gnosis magazine Richard Smoley made the trek up from the San Francisco bay area to spend a day with E. J. Gold and Dru Kristel who joined them by speaker phone. Subjects discussed were as diverse as Quaking in team fortress to angels to Buckaroo Banzai to Gurdjieff and all points in between! Smoley wrote in a 1994 Gnosis editorial that his latent interest in the metaphysical was awakened by the American Book of the Dead. Said Smoley: "The American Book of the Dead is a recasting of the powerful Tibetan Book of the Dead for a contemporary audience.

When I first encountered it, it revived my long-dormant interest in spirituality." He brought his original copy along to the interview, only to discover later that it was 21 years to the day after he had bought it! Gnosis magazine, a quarterly devoted to the Western inner traditions, will likely publish the interview in its Spring 1998 issue.
